Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common of repetitive stress injuries, which annually cost in excess of $7 billion in workers’ compensation, and $20 million in medical benefits, and lost wages. We commonly ta ke for granted that our bodies can operate a computer mouse, type on the computer, or simply knit an afghan for prolonged periods of time until we experience pain. The nerve affected in CTS is the median nerve that controls the thumb, index and parts of the ring finger.
Previously, one of the most common treatments for CTS was surgery, which proved beneficial in approximately half the cases. Chiropractors are the only professionals who can determine the underlying problem and then select a treatment for correction.
Part of the reason CTS isn’t treated successfully is that it is often misdiagnosed. In addition to evaluation of CTS, chiropractors also evaluate other areas that can cause the numbness and tingling. That is why chiropractors have a high success rate.
