The symptoms of TMJ vary widely. One of the more common symptoms is an inability to move the jaw without pain. A clicking or popping sound may be heard with or without pain. Other symptoms include severe migraines, hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), pain in and around the ear, nausea, blurred vision and dizziness. Often patients will grind at night and wake up in the morning with their teeth tightly clenched.
Upon evaluation, most patients with TMJ have had neck problems, some even with whiplash, or a recent dental visit. Some of the standard dental or medical approaches to treating TMJ syndrome include muscle relaxants, painkillers, nights guard and even surgery. At Tri-States Clinic we have helped many with TMJ. We treat each case individually, but have used the spinal adjusting with low level laser therapy that has been very successful.
